Best of 2016 Linky Party!

Cheryl at Meadow Mist designs is hosting a linky party. She is challenging us to post our 5 best from 2016. I choose to show my 5 "emotional" quilts.

Number 5

Confetti Quilt was made for my daughter's teacher. She had that particular teacher for 3 different years and she was an extraordinary help into the diagnosis of her learning difficulties.

Number 4

The Little Prince. This quilt is very special for me. Not only does it refer to my favorite book of all time ( The Little Prince from Antoine de St-Exupéry ) it is also my first venture into developing my "Low Poly" technique.

Number 3

Turtle Under sea. Using Neocolors II , Inktense and many experiments I was able to add complexity into the scales of this turtle. I love it when I get to try new technique.

Number 2

Butterfly at Sunset. Simple but powerful. Making this quilt was an happy experiment. I submitted My Butterfly at Sunset quilt in Amy Ellis Blogger Quilt festival in the Home Machine Quilted category and Got the most votes!!!!! First time winning anything quilt related lol. It was a pleasant surprise.

Number One

Ugly Christmas sweater quilt. I made this quilt for the Christmas in July blog hope. Making this quilt was...interesting. It happened to coincide with my "surprise" move on July 15th. If I remember right we were asked in February to participate so I never would have guessed how completely hectic making this quilt would be.   I was making boxes between sewing blocks. It has the most views and comments.

Back to the sewing machine

I hope you had a wonderful time. It is now time to spend some quality time with my sewing machine.
On my wall this week is definitely my low poly raccoon  ( For those who does not know, low poly is a technique I developed to easily make complex subjects. If you are interested you can go see the video of the technique)

I decided to make a blue raccoon :) After all it is all about values :)

My low poly Cougar is almost done quilting but the light is too bad to take a picture right now. I am happy to add this piece to my 2016 year!!!

I also did this pin cushion :) I love making those tiny gooses

Finish Monday?

Lately it seem that I have a tendency to finish projects on Monday rather than Friday :) I binge watched "The OA" on Netflix so I had a lot of time to work on Free motion quilting and binding.
(About the OA.....if you like weird and ending open to interpretation I recommend it)

First I finished my Fall Table runner....just in time to start my Winter table runner I guess. I love the texture and colors of this very easy project. I might do a pattern of it.

Second I finished this low poly heart. I needed and easy low poly project because I think the cougar can be a bit intimidating. It was the occasion to try a new way (to me ) of binding quilts as demonstrated by Victoria Gertenbach of the Silly BooDilly website. she made a tutorial on how to  sew a non binding binding :)

It is a great technique for smaller art quilt... it help it lay very flat and square.

So what is on my wall this week? Well I can frankly say that I have no idea. The wall is empty right now. It is not that have no work in progress!!! (there is always a few WIP and UFO around)
1-Quilt my Cougar piece

2-Start my Low poly technique Raccoon. All  the work that I have to do before even touching fabric is pretty much done.

3-Quilt my low poly Dragon

4- Finish writing a few patterns including "The dancer" "Turtle Underwater" and "Sky bound"

5-Whatever I decide to start because I have to start right now, can't wait, what UFO's? I am sure you know the feeling lol.

2017 Planning Party Linkup!!

Welcome to the 2017 Planning Party Linkup organised by quiltingJETgirl. It is the occasion to look forward to 2017.

2016 was a very good year for my quilting life but frankly it was horrible personally on health news, on the world news, celebrity death and politics....so maybe that is why my quilting life was so good! My blog had its first anniversary with 40 000 views, participated at many blog hops,  met my mentor and decided to rent a booth at the Toronto Quilt Canada 2017.

So for 2017 the big project is Quilt Canada expo in June. I am scared to death sprinkled with a big spoonful of "what was I thinking" and a dash of self doubts. My hope is to have 25 patterns for sell then
(8 are done....6 are under way)

Once the more commercial part of my quilting is out of the way, I really want to explore more art quilts. I can't work because of my health but I am still only 43 years old. At Concordia University....there is a Fiber and Material Practice Bachelor program  How cool is that!!!! I would really want to do it part time....I could not do it full time because my narcolepsy would make it impossible but even if it take me 10 years to get my diploma...who cares. Here some of the class :

  • Fibre Structures
  • Textile Printing and Dyeing
  • Paper: Surface and Object
  • History of Textile Art and Aspects of the History of Textile Art
  • Special Topics Courses such as Extreme Fibres, Transformative Cloth, Textiles and Identity or Digital Technologies and Material Practices.
How not to be excited!!!!! It might not be for 2017 but I will build a portfolio and cross my fingers for 2018.

So there you have it.......2017 will be interesting to say the least

Snow day

It is snowing in Montreal.....it means not going anywhere day if I don't have to. There are still people that drive without winter tires ( We have po put them on before December 15th!!!) and we've all seen that video last week .

It's not like we had snow Every Years For the Last million years!!!!

Like usual I am all over the place regarding my projects. Right now on my design wall I have this fairy. She need a border and I have to test ways to reflect the full moon.

I also have those strips of fabrics to see if they could inspire me.

And playing with this fall table runner. Not satisfied right now....I have to play with it for now.

Tester Needed!!!!

Do you want to be my guinea pig?

Want to try a new but easy technique?

Make your own Low poly cougar Quilt?

Want me to end asking questions like I am an infomercial?

I need tester for my new low poly technique. I made a video to explain how to use the pattern and I need to know if anyone has a problem following the instructions. I would need to have feedback at the latest middle of January.

Now for a finish, I finally added the binding to my "Turtle under Sea" quilt. I finished quilting it a few months ago but then forgot about it!!! It is now ready to go to my daughter's room :)

One quilt finished....another started

Finally my quilt "Birds in a garden" is done and washed. I am in the process to write the free pattern if any of you want to do it. This quilt is great if you have a big pattern fabric that you just can't cut :)
The sun is back after days of gray and sad temperature so I was able to take an outside picture!!!

I also started a new quilt (are you surprised lol) This one is applique based on baroque design. It will be a colorful one that is for sure :)

At the same time I am working on producing my low poly raccoon pattern. I intend to make a video of my process !!!!

No finish this week.

As some of you know, I suffer from Narcolepsy and some days (week) are easier than other. I remember before I got sick how I could just do free motion quilting for hours, now I call it a good day when I can do 30 minutes at a time.

I had hopes to finish quilting my "Birds in the garden" quilt and have a finish this week but it is not the case. But I still have a picture of the great texture

Instead I will give you a peak of my next project ;) A low poly raccoon!!!!! Isn't he the cutest!!!! I might get adventurous and use blues instead of browns and beige. I wanted to work with tones for the longest time but never got the courage.

I also have a few videos I want to make. (Note the Video page I added)

On my "to do" list

Last week I made my first quilting video!!!! Pretty proud for the first one.....but don't watch it, it is in french LOL English version is coming very soon.

I also started to see if I could reproduce this painting

Into a quilt.....the colors are absolutely fabulous and the cat is a cutey

With a lot of layering and thread painting, I think I can make something interesting.
