End of times

Don't worry, I didn't lose my marbles and started shouting at the corner of the street that "you must repent, the end of times is coming"

Like every year, Kim from Persimon Dreams Propose a series of themes and you have to make a project from start to finish in the same week. I didn't really have time to participate but this last one really spoke to me.

This week theme is be inspired by time, deadlines, or the end.

I am not a prepper and don't plan for the end of times (even if I have to admit that Trump scare the hell out of me)

Lately, the end of times seem to be a recurring theme in my life. More precisely, Pandemics. I just finished 2 books back to back exactly about this. The fantastic "The Stand" from the ever brilliant Stephen King.  It outlines the total breakdown of society after the accidental release of a strain of influenza that had been modified for biological warfare causes an apocalyptic pandemic which kills off the majority of the world's human population.

The second book is from Connie Willis "Doomsday book" Even if you do not like science fiction I highly recommend this book. First the protagonist is a female!!! It happen in 2 epoch at the same time. The future 2054 and 1348 England where an historian is sent back in time to observe the middle ages but an error put her at the horror of the black death epidemic.  The writing is beautiful and it make you love those people that are about to experience Hell on earth and make the inevitable even harder. The 2054 part didn't aged well but all is forgiven at the end of this book.

Well with all that it bring me to my project. I know it is not very imaginative but I could not take out this symbol in my head. Such a simple, even cute symbol but that it represent suffering and death.

I tried to find something less........gruesome but that symbol was in my mind and refused to leave. So here is the result.

  4. Love, love, love it! I'm personally a fan of post-apocalyptic sci-fi, and while I didn't care for The Stand, I'll probably check the other one out. Thanks!

  6. That's a wonderful juxtapostion of a cute quilt and then the meaning behind the symbol - it's very clever :)

  7. You chose a great little quilt project. Your machine quilting technique is very polished. That's something I've been wanting to work on this year. On a side note: My friends all play a game called Pandemic. Although I personally have never played it, it sounds like it might fit in nicely with the theme of this post.

  15. Hello Yanicka,

Such a striking quilt! The fact that you have made the symbol black makes the scary message come through, but the bright yellow and beautiful quilting convey hope. Optimism shines through.

Thank you for linking up with Free Motion Mavericks. Your quilt is this week's featured project!

    Love, Muv
