I am waiting for my printable freezer paper to arrive (probably friday) so in the main time I am working on new possible patterns
This is a preliminary Tiger more work need to be done but I like where it is going
Did you ever have a quilt that just didn't work? One unsolvable quilty problem?
I would love to see it. I will show mine if you show me yours :) This is the mess. Still make me feel slightly pucky when I look at it.

That tiger is really something!!!! Love the raccoon, too.
ReplyDeleteYour designs always amaze me. As far as that quilt goes, it may not work for you, but someone else might just love it. Happy sewing and designing this week! Andrea
ReplyDeleteyou amaze me with all your animal creations these all look great. Once the quilt is quilted I am sure you will feel happier about it I know some of mine improved with quilting though have very few that I am 100% pleased with
ReplyDeleteThere was a tiger image similar to this that went viral a few years ago. I printed it out and have it on my inspiration board. I've wanted to turn it into a quilt for a long time, and even started drawing it out in EQ. I just might have to get your version so I can take it off my patterns to make one day list! Keep going!
ReplyDeleteGreat new ideas! I get that about your quilt that didn't work. Sometimes fun prints just have too much motion. Is it quilted? I was thinking if you over quilted the light section in a medium to dark thread it might take it down a notch!
ReplyDeleteThese are sheer perfection! Your patterns always amazes me. As for the quilt you don't love, perhaps if it's not quilted you might add sashing to separate the blocks? I also like the idea of using quilting to change the color of the lighter fabric. In any case, I've had several quilts that I don't like for one reason or another. Some end up as UFOs, some get finished and given to a happy home. I hope you finish yours and find a home for it? Thanks for linking up to Wednesday Wait Loss.
ReplyDeleteThat tiger. Wow. Really stunning! And I love the raccoon too!
ReplyDeleteYou have to know.... I love the tiger and the raccoon! Both are stunning! I consider myself print challenged and can relate to your feelings on those blocks. If you finish it and still aren't happy with it, you could just turn it with the backing side up and use it for a sewing machine mat. Or give it away. I have had a few similar experiences!
ReplyDeleteWow! Both of these faces are awesome! Though I have to admit, the sewing challenge is more than I would want to undertake at this time. Thanks again for linking up!
ReplyDeleteYour animals are amazing!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, that tiger is AMAZING! How are you going to make that? FPP? What do you use your printable freezer paper for?
ReplyDeleteAs for your "mess" -- yes, sadly I have had that happen, more so before I put up a design wall and bought EQ7 software. SO much better to "see" the finished quilt before I cut into fabric rather than feeling disappointed when I put the blocks together and it doesn't come out how I envisioned it.
So, a couple of thoughts about those blocks. If I wanted to salvage them, I would try to increase the contrast between the two fabrics. Several ways you could do this: Use fabric markers or fabric paints to darken the blue batik fabric, and/or use fabric paint to make the other fabric lighter, muting the black print. Also, you could use a black or navy blue thread and quilt the blue batik heavily, because heavy quilting in a darker shade will make that fabric appear darker, better contrast, in the finished project. Or you could go with the whole low contrast thing like you MEANT to do that, and use it as a pieced background for some pithy saying appliqued in bold, red lettering.
Your wall is looking good with that tiger in progress!
ReplyDeleteOMGOODNESS!! I truly love these 2 animal blocks!!
ReplyDeleteThe critters are very impressive. Lots of pieces! The quilt looks fine to me, but I know the feeling you have. That's how we get UFOs. If you really can't stand it, give it to another quiltmaker (maybe as a blog giveaway).
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing! Both the tiger and raccoon evoke that wonder of nature. So fun to see exquisite paper pieced works of art.
ReplyDeleteFor the quilt you are struggling with, it looks like (I can't tell for sure) that there are 4 blocks pieced together. I wonder if an option is to add a solid colored sashing (maybe black or a low volume neutral color) that gives the eyes something to rest on? Just a thought...:)
